AST (GOT)

Unit
U/L

What is AST (GOT)?

AST is an enzyme that comes from both your liver and your muscles, so it's a broad signal of tissue strain. Because muscle raises it too, a hard workout can lift the value temporarily. Together with ALT it gives a calm picture of whether your liver and tissues are doing their work at ease.

What moves this value?

Alcohol, fat build-up in the liver, but also intense exercise or muscle strain can raise the value temporarily.

Don't measure just after a hard workout for a fair picture; less alcohol and more movement support your liver. Discuss a persistently high value with your doctor.

The colour zones are personal: they depend on age, sex, risk and history, and appear in the patient's own report.

Insights to discuss with the patient, not a diagnostic instrument.
